Chiva-Som retreat is deservedly renowned as one of Asia’s finest. In particular, the 3,5,7 or 10-night detox programs. Upon arrival, you meet with the extremely knowledgeable Health and Wellness Advisor to personalize their program. This should assure anyone that their Chiva-Som detox will address individual concerns and goals while incorporating activities like pranayama breathing, the oxidative stress test, specialised cooking classes and flower remedies only where appropriate.
As mine was a short 3-night stay, and I had a specific goal, to kickstart a weight loss effort with a thorough cleanse, my advisor (who spent a full 90 minutes with me that first morning) suggested tweaking the Chiva-Som 7-day Cleansing Plan to safely maximize my results. Yes, this meant three days of cleansing juice, wheatgrass shots, potassium broth and a liver detox tea that tasted quite nice before bed, however I felt closely monitored so was willing to take on this unexpected, extreme challenge.
Though I therefore cannot speak to the gourmet meals I saw others thoroughly enjoy, I can report this was the easiest, most painless fast I have tried and I would have gladly stayed on. I felt intellectually stimulated by information generously shared by my Health and Wellness Advisor, gained useful insights on old knee and back injuries from the programme’s complimentary physical analysis and took full advantage of the unlimited use of the spa’s water therapies including the steam, spa and Jacuzzi. This detox includes a daily spa treatment and mine were uniformly effective, like the 50-minute Invigorating Massage and the signature Chiva-Som Massage. I added Lymphatic Drainage having seen it listed on the longer programmes and a Chi Nei Tsang. Both were excellent and I felt extremely worthwhile additions. My Thai butler made sure my ‘meals’ arrived on time and that I was entirely comfortable throughout.
